Introduction
In 2004, a mysterious thread surfaced on Japan’s largest anonymous message board, 2channel. A user named “Hasumi” live-posted a bizarre experience while riding a local train in Shizuoka Prefecture.*
What began as an ordinary commute quickly descended into a surreal nightmare. This thread is now one of Japan's most famous internet legends—“Kisaragi Station.”
* Shizuoka Prefecture: Located between Tokyo and Nagoya, Shizuoka is known for its calm, laid-back atmosphere. It feels like a quiet regional city. Mentioning a real place gives the story a stronger sense of realism.

Live-report thread 26 – “Post here if something weird is happening around you”

It might just be my imagination, but may I ask something?
99 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:16
Go ahead.
100 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:18
>>98
What’s going on?
101 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:18
I’m on a private railway right now and something feels off.
104 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:19
Hmm, hmm…
107 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:23
It’s the train I always take to work, yet it hasn’t stopped for about 20 minutes.
Normally it halts every five—seven or eight at the longest.
There are five other passengers and they’re all asleep.
108 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:23
You haven’t jumped off already, right?
111 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:25
Maybe you just boarded an express instead of a local?
112 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:25
>>107
Is it a rapid train?
114 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:29
You might be right—I could have boarded the wrong service.
I’ll wait a little longer. If it still feels weird I’ll report back.
115 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/08 23:35
For now, head to the end car and check on the conductor.
116 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/08 23:40
If the driver’s had a seizure that’s serious. Go look in the cab!
118 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/08 23:44
Still no sign of stopping—going to have a look.
126 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:00
A blind covers the window—couldn’t see the conductor or driver.
The line’s a private railway in Shizuoka Prefecture.
131 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:02
>>126
Try knocking on the window?
137 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:08
I knocked but got no response.
146 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/09 00:13
Can’t you see outside? Any station names you passed?
153 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:19
After exiting a tunnel the speed dropped a bit—there isn’t usually a tunnel on this route.
It’s the train from Shin-Hamamatsu*.
*Shin-Hamamatsu Station
Shin-Hamamatsu is the terminal station of the Enshū Railway Line, located in central Hamamatsu, Shizuoka.
156 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:23
Looks like it’s stopping—seems to be a station.
157 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:24
You’re not actually getting off, right?
160 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:25
It’s stopped at “Kisaragi Station.” Should I get off?
I’ve never heard of or seen this station.
162 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:26
Definitely get off and check it out.
165 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:28
Ride it to the final stop instead!
166 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:29
Or maybe it’s already left by now.
161 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/09 00:26
>>Hasumi
What time did you board?
167 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:29
I got off. It’s an unmanned station.
I think I boarded the 11:40 train.
168 :町田親衛隊 ◆VbT745avmg: sage 04/01/09 00:30
Kisaragi Station doesn’t show up in searches…
And Hasumi’s train has been running for a whole hour?
Alright, I’m really off to take a bath.
170 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/09 00:32
Kisaragi Station doesn’t come up in search results…
176 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:34
I tried to find a timetable so I could head back, but there isn’t one. The train’s still here—should I just get back on? …It left while I was typing.
181 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:36
Is there any building nearby where people might be? It’s cold, so take care of yourself.
182 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:36
I’ll leave the station and try to find a taxi. Thanks.
183 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:36
That’s probably best. Stay safe.
185 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:39
I really doubt you’ll find a taxi around an unmanned station after the last train’s long gone.
186 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:41
And so Hasumi became a resident of the two-dimensional world.
187 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:41
There’s nothing here—not even taxis. What should I do?
190 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:43
>>187
Head to the station staff or the nearest police box—go!
191 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:43
Maybe just dial 110?

193 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/09 00:43
How about calling a taxi company?
194 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:43
Looks like you’ll have to head to the police (“K”) station.
195 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/09 00:44
If there’s a phone booth nearby, use the directory to look up a taxi company.
204 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:48
I called home and asked them to pick me up, but my parents don’t know where Kisaragi Station is. They’ll check a map first, but I’m kind of scared.
209 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:50
What happened to the other passengers? Were you the only one who got off?
213 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:52
Hasumi, I searched online too but can’t find any station called Kisaragi. You’re definitely near Shin-Hamamatsu, right? I’ll check Yahoo.
214 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 00:53
I looked for a public phone but there isn’t one. No one else got off, so I’m alone. The station name definitely says Kisaragi.
217 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/09 00:56
Sometimes a public phone is outside the station grounds.
220 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): 04/01/09 00:56
Maybe step outside the station for now?
221 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:57
I just found out you can read the kanji for “oni” (demon) as “kisaragi”…
225 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:00
>>221
So it’s “Demon Station”… Creepy.
218 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 00:56
Are you a gamer? Google pulled up a game when I searched.
223 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…):sage 04/01/09 00:59
Write down the stations before and after Kisaragi. Don’t say there aren’t any.
229 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 01:01
What game are you talking about? There’s no station listed before or after.
249 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:08
Let’s just walk along the tracks and head back.
256 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:11
If you start running now, you might catch up to the train!
258 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:11
It’s a station—there should be at least some houses around.
259 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 01:12
Right, I was panicking and didn’t notice. I’ll walk along the tracks and wait for my parents to call. I checked i-mode town info earlier but got some “point-something error.” I just want to go home.
261 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:12
>>257
Whether it’s a joke or not, let’s tackle this seriously and fix it.
280 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 01:18
There’s honestly nothing nearby—just fields and mountains. But if I follow the tracks I think I can get back, so I’ll try. Thanks. I don’t mind if people think this is fake; can I ask for help again if I get stuck?
283 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:18
>>280
Sure. Just be careful, okay?
285 :町田親衛隊 ◆VbT745avmg: 04/01/09 01:19
Go ahead—just watch your phone battery. It’s your lifeline now.
286 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:19
Don’t lose your direction. And be careful inside the tunnel.
296 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:22
Will your phone even get a signal out there? I think you’d be safer staying at the station…
303 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:24
Cold night, empty station with no staff—those bulbs might go out soon and leave you in total darkness…
304 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:25
The tracks are an even darker trap, and there’s a tunnel ahead, right?
305 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:25
Maybe waiting at the station until dawn would’ve been safer…
308 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:26
This is getting bad.
317 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 01:30
My dad called; after a lot of back-and-forth he still can’t figure out where I am, so he told me to dial 110. I’m hesitant, but I’ll call now and ask for help.
358 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:43
I still think it’d be easier to move once it’s light…
361 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:45
Could you sit and wait alone in the middle of the night—in a place this strange?
362 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:46
Could you walk through a tunnel alone at night—on tracks in such a bizarre place…?
363 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:46
Then could you keep walking along an unfamiliar road in this cold?
380 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 01:55
I called 110 and tried to explain, but they got angry and said it must be a prank—so I panicked and apologized…
382 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:56
>>380
Why apologize? Just give up for tonight—wait for the first train.
388 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:58
What’s around the station? Anything there?
386 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 01:57
I can hear drum-like sounds in the distance, mixed with something like bells, but honestly I have no idea what to do now.
391 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 01:58
For now go back to the station, Hasumi. When you’re lost, return to where you started.
395 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 02:00
It’s about to begin…
396 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 02:00
Drums and bells…? (´・ω・`) shan-shan pok-pok
Note: (´・ω・`) — A Japanese emoticon that means “I’m sad in a small, pitiful way.” Kind of like a soft, sulky puppy face.
487 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 02:32
Well, it’s clear that just sitting still isn’t going to make things any better.
488 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 02:32
>>Hasumin
I think you’ll be safe once you get through the tunnel. As soon as you’re out, report it and let someone pick you up.
492 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 02:35
I called home. Dad says he’ll phone the police, but the pounding sound is coming closer.
500 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 02:38
Let’s hope that sound isn’t a train—though it might already be too late…
516 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 02:45
I finally made it to the tunnel entrance; the sign says “Isanugi.” The sound is closer, so I’ll gather my courage and go through. If Hasumi gets out safely I’ll post again.
520 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 02:46
>>516
Hang in there!
522 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 02:47
This is the last chance. The train and station are gone, there’s nowhere to return to, no one chasing you. The sounds you hear are echoes of the past you’re creating yourself. Run through the tunnel—if you stop, you’ll be trapped in a place that belongs to neither world.
562 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 03:10
I made it out of the tunnel. Someone’s standing up ahead. Looks like following your advice was the right move—thank you. My face is streaked with tears, so Hasumi might get mistaken for a ghost.
566 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:11
Wait, Hasumi! Don’t go!
569 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:12
Stop—this is bad!
570 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:12
Someone standing there at this hour? That’s super shady…
586 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 03:20
Sorry to worry you. A kind person offered to drive me to a nearby station. They say there’s a business-hotel-type place there. Thank you all so much.
588 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:21
Hasumin, I have a question—where exactly are you? Could you ask that kind person the place name?
590 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:21
Is that person really “kind”? They might be scarier than the ghosts.
593 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:23
Anyway—so where ARE you, huh?!
596 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:25
That person is bad news!! Why are they near the tracks at this hour? Maybe they were dumping a corpse and ran into you—run!!
606 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 03:29
I asked the place name and they said “Hina,” but that can’t be right.
607 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:29
Get out of the car, Hasumin!
610 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:29
Sorry, Kasumin—where is “Hina,” exactly?
621 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:36
Weird story—someone actually picked up a girl who’d walked off the tracks at this hour… What was that person doing?
623 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 03:37
We’re heading further into the mountains. I can’t imagine there’s anywhere to park out here. They’ve stopped talking to me altogether.
627 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:40
Anyone awake at this hour is trouble.
628 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:41
Maybe they stopped talking because you’re on your phone nonstop?
629 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:41
Hasumin, this is real bad—did you tell your parents you got out of the tunnel and someone “rescued” you?
631 :Anonymous (Right Behind You…): sage 04/01/09 03:41
Hasumi, dial 110—please! This might be your last post.
Note: 110 ー Japan’s emergency police number.
635 :Hasumi ◆KkRQjKFCDs: sage 04/01/09 03:44

Kisaragi Station – Aftermath
*Seven years later, on 30 June 2011, a woman calling herself “Hasumi” appeared on another website. The truth is unknown.*
Hasumi 2011.06.30 (Thu) 18:26
Um, you probably won’t believe this, but… Seven years have passed, and I’ve finally returned to the normal world.
A lot happened after I came back, so I couldn’t reply until now;
Since some people seemed worried…
After that, the driver stopped the car. In the dark forest I saw a light ahead.
I couldn’t understand the driver’s muttering, but a man walked toward us from the right. It was terrifying… Then everything flashed and the car jolted.
The driver had vanished.
The man shouted, “Why are you here? You can’t stay! I got rid of that driver—run while you can!” He sounded frantic.
He pulled me out of the car and told me to walk toward the light. I didn’t know what was going on, so I ran, crying.
When the light became blinding and I opened my eyes, I was in front of my local station, with my parents calling me from their car.
It was April 2011. The seven years in between were gone. My parents acted as if nothing had happened and took me home. Thank you, everyone… Thanks to you I made it back ;;
Everyone, please be careful ^^

I’m guessing it’s probably a hoax, but…
NONAME 2011.07.03 (Sun) 14:07
Whoa, scary! This feels really creepy, lol.
Hina does exist, but there’s no tunnel? There were mountains nearby though…
If you’re okay, leave another comment!
NONAME 2011.10.11 22:21
We have no way to confirm, so… who knows what really happened?
NONAME 2012.08.27 (Mon) 03:11
Hasumi’s writing feels different from her old posts…
It also feels too convenient that her parents were right there…
NONAME 2012.11.06 15:47
Yeah, honestly, I think it’s probably fake.
白虎 2016.01.28 (Thu) 17:08
If anyone knows anything about Hasumi or Kisaragi Station, please share.
NONAME 2016.03.27 (Sun) 12:54
I found this through related links.
Reading it, I feel like Hasumi came back because her parents asked a spiritual medium to bring her home (the man who pulled her from the car).
That would explain why her parents happened to be there.
By the way, tobacco sometimes mentioned in the comments is said to have an apotropaic effect—like incense.

I read this for the first time today and it freaked me out (T ^ T)
If Hasumi is still alive, I’d love for her to reply again (´・ω・`)
Note: (T ^ T)ー A Japanese-style emoticon used to show crying or being very sad. 😭
(After this, there have been no further posts from “Hasumi.”)
Cultural Context
“Kisaragi Station” has been adapted into manga, short films, and podcasts. The story resonates with fans of surreal, ambient horror—similar in tone to English-language stories like those from r/NoSleep or the SCP Foundation.
