Anyone want a house in the northern part of Kobe City? | Japanese Horror Stories & Urban Legends

Intro

This eerie story didn’t come from a horror forum.
It first appeared in a completely unrelated thread titled: “Giving Away for Free / Please Give Me Something for Free.”
At first, it seemed like just another mundane post about an old house giveaway—but what followed left readers stunned.
The cryptic conditions, vague explanations, and strange mentions of a well and “something coming down from the mountain” quickly turned the thread into an urban legend in the making.

Anyone want a house in the northern part of Kobe City?

Anyone want a house in the northern part of Kobe City? There are just three conditions: 1. You absolutely must accept it. 2. You must not leave the house empty for more than three days. 3. You must live there until you die.
If you can follow these three rules, I’ll give you the property—land and all.

Is it really free?
Does it have a garage?

I’d love to have a house, lol

That’s seriously creepy…
What kind of house has conditions like that?

The house was renovated about 20 years ago. It’s something my grandparents asked me to do— There’s a well in the grove behind the house. It technically belongs to my grandparents, so please don’t touch it. (It’s fenced off.)
If you’re the kind of person who can live here till you die,
and you don’t travel, I can hand it over right away.
If you really meet the conditions, it’d help if you spoke up.

I can’t say too much about the location, but it’s tucked away past Tanigami.

Also, yes, it’s completely free. But because the local ties can be a pain, I won’t be giving out my future contact info. Sorry about that.
There’s no garage, but there’s a large yard where you can park.

That’s terrifying, lol

Please list all the downsides for us.

What happens if I leave the house for more than three days?

Why don’t you just sell the place?
And… is there something in the well?

945 :Anonymous:2009/02/04(水) 15:43:40 ID:U9k3b5CrO
Kinda scary... What if there’s a body in that well?
Also, who actually owns the land and the house?

Alright, I get it now.
This has to be it: They murdered the grandparents, dumped them in the well, and are now handing the property off to some random person to throw off the investigation.
If the land belongs to a complete outsider, the police can’t easily get involved, right?

There’s no crime or anything like that, if that’s what you’re worried about. It’s just… at night, something comes down from the mountain. It’s terrifying. It breaks my heart. I just can’t look at it anymore.

Hey, I’m a Japanese net-dweller who read these 2channel threads as they happened. 2channel (2ch) was Japan’s text-only answer to 4chan—massive, chaotic, and anonymous. I translate the legendary horror posts here, adding notes so you can catch the cultural nuances without digging through Japanese logs.
